After intership with Leon, Louie and Cleve I worked the Auburn Infirmary for a year to get a car, some extensive dental work done, and pay some debts paid. During internship where I was one of 45 interns, I found out that I knew as much medicine as the rest of us. During that year I found out that Charner Heard had gotten sick and would not keep his reidency in general surgery at the Macon Hospital. I was fortunate to get that position and become a pretty good surgeon, During that time one got one of two Plastic Surgery 3 year residency. positions at Baylor Univ.
After a couple years, after residency, I settled in Knoxville. In late 1998, I had a severe MI. Docs said that I had had 3 previous less severe MS,s With this one, I laid around ICU for several days trying to get stable enough to get to the OR, Had 6 graphs and did well but I failed to wake up. On Saturday evening some prayers were made. At about 11:00 Sunday morning I woke up. I subeqently I had a defib placed. I was in the hosital several times during the next months tyring to get out of heart failure. It was almost a year before I was able to do surgery. I worked 3 days a week doing only elective surgery for a few hours in the morning working resting, and a few hours in the afternoon.
Five years ago, I retired and closed my office. I have a small farm in Barnwell County, SC and spend some time there. It is what is left of a Land Grant. Archibald Baynard who sellled Hilton Head Island is one of my fifth generation grandfathers. One of my grandmothers was from Liberty, County Ga.
I am not going to come the reunion. I want to extend my wishes all of class mates.
